2020-2021 Students of the Month

September: Emma Boykin
Emma Boykin is the daughter of Shawnna Conrad and Slate Boykin, she is also the sister to Brent Boykin and Aja Conrad. She is first in her class with a GPA of 4.11. She has been a part of ASB and CSF for 3 years. During high school she has participated in two years of volleyball, one year of basketball and one year of softball. Emma wants to graduate high school and go into a four year university in the fall of 2021. 
 
October: Beyonce' Bussell
Beyonce’ is the daughter of Sunshine Jackson and the late Benjamin Bussell Sr. She is the granddaughter
of Verla Jackson-Robbins and Rodney Robbins and Yvonne “Dodie” Bussell and Jennifer and Darrell
Mabry Sr. She is ranked 2nd in her class with a 4.02 GPA. While in high school Beyonce’ has been involved
in ASB, participated in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball, is a member of CSF, and attends Coastline
Community College. Beyonce’ is currently applying at various universities and is undecided on where she
will be going but plans to pursue a Masters of Science in Nursing. She would like to thank her large
support system for always being there to get her to where she is today.
 
 
November: Ruby King
Ruby King is the granddaughter of Elsie (Tootsie) Gillespie and Wayne King I, daughter of late Wayne King II, and the niece of Kristen King, and Charla King. She is ranked third in her class with a GPA of 3.91. While in high school she has participated in ASB, CSF, and on the Orleans Karuk Youth Leadership Council as Vice-Chairwoman. Ruby is currently dual enrolled in College of the Redwoods. After finishing high school she plans to attend a university in hopes of pursuing a PhD in Psychology. 
 
 
December: Bryan Frank Matilton
I am the son of Irma and Page Matilton. The grandson of Frank Fregoso, Maria Fregoso, Donna Matilton and the late Ray Matilton. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.77.  During high school I played one year of golf.  I enjoy building things, the outdoors, hanging out with my friends, and gaming.  After high school I hope to pursue a career as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
I would like to thank my family, my teachers and my friends for the love and support throughout my life!
 
 
 
January: Mackenzie Brazil
Daughter of Kathie Brazil, Granddaughter of Dorcas Marshall
Cumulative GPA 3.55
Played basketball 2 years, Track 1 year.
Enjoys reading, sports, and listening to music.
Will be attending Humboldt State University this fall to pursue a bachelor's degree. 
 
 
 
February: Jada McCovey
Jada Sienne Tegemur McCovey is the daughter of Dawn Blake and Pliny McCovey, Jr. and the
granddaughter of George Blake, Anna Sylvia, and Diana McKinnon. She is a member of the
Hoopa Tribe and a descendant of the Yurok and Karuk tribes. Jada has a cumulative GPA of
3.64. Throughout high school, Jada has participated in two years of CSF, two years of ASB,
three years of volleyball, three years of basketball, and two years of track. After high school,
Jada plans to attend a four-year university and from there bring her degree back home to
contribute to her community.
 
 
 
March: Mckenna Stephens
Hey everyone, My name is McKenna Stephens. I am the daughter of
Kim and Brian Stephens and the granddaughter of Kathy and Gary
Colegrove, Sr. as well as Pam and Gary Stephens. I am ranked 7th in my
class with a GPA of 3.60. While in highschool I was a part of Native
American club (Vice President, Secretary), Sea club, a junior member of
Hoopa Auxiliary post 415 as well as class representative my senior
year. I also played 3 years of Softball and 2 years of Basketball. After
highschool, I will be attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa in
pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. I plan on becoming a
Pediatric surgeon in the future. I would like to thank my family and
friends for being my support system throughout the years.
