Important Updates for the 2021-2022 school year

First week of school: HVHS will begin the day at 8:40am on Wednesday, August 25th. Students will be dismissed promptly at 3:40pm. Transportation will be provided.
Early Release Day: Early release day this year will be EVERY MONDAY at 2:40PM. Please be prepared to pick up your student(s) early every Monday.
Student Drop-off Time: Campus doors will not open until 8:15am every day. If you arrive early, please remain parked in your vehicle until 8:15. At that time, staff will begin screenings to check in students. While we encourage that you get your student(s) to school on time, we greatly appreciate your patience during these challenging times.
Instructional Model: HVHS is able to offer full-time in-person instruction! The CA Dept. of Public Health has provided guidance that requires universal masking for everyone in the K-12 settings. Currently all staff, students, and guests on campus must use facial coverings both indoors and outdoors. Reason being - We want to have our students in school every day! Masking is promoted as the most effective way to prevent transmission of Covid-19. When safety protocols are followed, the risk of transmission at school amongst the students is exceptionally low. To facilitate in-person instruction, we ask that the community please be patient as we are often responding to changing data and parameters. Please assist us in engaging in productive conversations that are focused on soultions for our school.
School Safety: The health and safety of our students, staff and the communities we serve is our number one priority. Here are some key points that we would like you to be aware of. Immunization status: All students attending public schooling must be up-to-date on their immunizations or have a signed medical waiver submitted to your school. Your child will not be able to attend the first day of school on August 25th if they are not up-to-date on their immunizations. Make your appointment with your medical provider now to avoid any delay to the start of your student's school year.
Covid Safety: On August 11th our Govenor and state legislators mandated that all public school employees must either be vaccinated or submit to weelky testing. Regardless of vaccination status, masks must always be worn on campus, along with social distancing and sanitation continuously being enforced to all school participants. Students and staff will have a health screening prior to being admitted on campus. The screening consists of a temperature check and symptoms review. Covid-19 Rapid Antigen as well as PCR testing is available to all staff and students at the KTJUSD Wellness Center. Please call for an appointment at 530-625-5600 x5101 or x5108. It is vital that families review symptoms with their children DAILY and PRIOR to arriving on campus. If ANY symptoms are present please DO NOT send them to school and schedule a test as soon as possible.
Employment at HVHS: We are currently seeking additional community members that may be interested in working at HVHS. If you are interested in working as a permanent support staff member or sub, please contact the front office and ask for Alysha at 530-625-5600 x1010.
Independent Study Option: We want to let you know that you do have the option to enroll your child(ren) in Independent Study, that is if attending in-person instruction poses a health risk. The legislation that enacted this requirement is very new, and we have been attending informational meetings and working sessions. If you are interested in participating in this model of instruction for this school year, please contact the front office to arrange to pick up a registration form.
Site Council: We are looking for community members/guardians who are interested in participating in our Site Council efforts this year. The Council meets monthly to discuss, identify, and apply financial resources that are available to our school. Participation in this Council is one of the most direct ways that you can have a positive impact on which programs/suports we implement here at the high school. You will be able to provide your input and have a voice in school-wide efforts for this academic year. If you are interested, please contact our front office to disucss next steps.
Most Sincerely,
HVHS Principal
